Nutrient dense smoothies: an eggnog smoothie, berrylicious smoothies, and creamy carob smoothie.

Nutrient dense ingredients for nutrient dense smoothies.Ingredients for nutrient dense smoothies.

These nutrient dense smoothies come with at least 21 grams of real protein and a substantial amount of nutrient dense fats.

The ingredients in my smoothies are a bit different than others.  You won't find any protein powders in my smoothies!

I use nutrient dense ingredients like raw pastured eggs, raw dairy, and unheated raw honey.

My smoothies not only taste delicious, but are full of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that your body needs to build a strong body.

Add in additions like a little raw fruit, carob powder, or spices to change the flavor of your nutrient dense smoothies.

Eggnog smoothie: this smoothie tastes just like the holidays!

Eggnog was something that me and my friend Dana would always crave during the holidays.  These days, I've turned eggnog into one of my favorite nutrient dense smoothies.

Ingredients:

  • 3 large organic pastured eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. grass fed raw heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup grass fed raw whole milk
  • 2 tsp. of raw and unheated pesticide-free honey
  • Small splash of organic vanilla extract
  • A little freshly grated organic nutmeg
Nutrient dense eggnog smoothie for the holidays!

Grams: 22 Protein, 28 Fat, 18 Net Carbs

Instructions:

  1. Crack each egg and add 1 at a time into a blender jar.  First, I usually crack 1 at a time into a separate small "ball jar" to check for freshness.
  2. Next, add in the heavy raw cream and raw milk.
  3. Then, add the raw unheated honey and a small splash of vanilla.
  4. Blend just until incorporated - about 10 seconds.
  5. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.

Pour your smoothie into a glass ball jar and decorate for a more festive feeling especially during the holidays.

Tip: if you want the carb count to be lower, just add 1 tsp. of raw honey which would give you 12 grams instead of 18 per eggnog smoothie.

Berrylicious smoothie: use your favorite berry or try a combination of berries.

This berrylicious smoothie is refreshing and gives you a boost because of the nutrient dense ingredients.  Kefir gives this smoothie a little zing and more enzymes.

Instructions:

  1. Crack each egg and add one at a time into a blender jar.  First, I usually crack one at a time into a separate small "ball jar" to check for freshness.
  2. Next, add in the nutrient dense kefir and raw whole milk.
  3. Then, add in the raw and unheated honey - preferably unfiltered.
  4. Finally, throw in the fresh or frozen mixed berries (thaw before using in recipe to make blending easier).
  5. Blend until the berries are incorporated into the smoothie - about 10 seconds.

Carb counts will vary depending on the quality of kefir and type of berries you decide to use.  The mixed berries I used only had 6 grams of net carbs per 1/2 cup serving.

Tip: use a small strainer to remove the seeds and thaw frozen berries for at least 1/2 hour before blending.

Creamy carob smoothie: a nutrient dense smoothie that is caffeine free.

Carob is commonly used as a replacement for chocolate and is caffeine free.  To me carob has a very different taste than chocolate and this creamy carob smoothie will have a hint of a caramel taste.

Ingredients:

  • 3 large organic pastured eggs
  • 1/4 cup grass fed raw whole milk
  • 1 Tbsp. of grass fed raw heavy cream
  • 1 tsp. of raw and unheated amber-colored honey
  • 2 tsp. of organic raw carob powder
  • 1/4 of organic banana (you can use a ripe banana or a slightly unripe banana to get more enzymes and less sugar)

  5. Finally, add in the banana - about 1 1/4 inches long.
  6. Blend until smooth and creamy or until everything is incorporated.

This creamy carob smoothie has a rich and delicious flavor.  If you add a little coffee extract, you could probably convince yourself that it's a delicious coffee smoothie.

Tip: thaw banana for at least 1/2 hour when using frozen banana to make blending easier.

Carob is a chocolate alternative that is caffeine free.

Carob powder is often used as a replacement for cocoa powder in recipes for those wishing to use a caffeine-free alternative.

Carob is an edible pod that contains a sweet pulp which is extracted, dried, and ground into a powder.  The seeds are removed before processing.

Carob powder contains essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

What does carob taste like?  Carob is slightly sweet and has an earthy or nutty undertone.  It's less bitter than chocolate and some find that carob has hints of a caramel flavor.

Nutrient dense smoothies are very versatile!

You can have these nutrient dense smoothies as a meal replacement or for a nutritious snack.  Or any time you need something nutritious to fill you up.

I like to drink a berrylicious smoothie before I work out because it gives me a sustained energy boost without weighing me down.

The amount of calories in these nutrient dense smoothies are about 336 for the berrylicious smoothie, 360 for the creamy carob smoothie, and about 407 for the eggnog smoothie.

You can always adjust or replace any of the ingredients as you see fit.  You can adjust the fat content, lower or increase the carbs, or just use raspberries for your berrylicious smoothies - it's up to you.
